FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I get started?
Submit the change exchange form and we’ll contact you within 1 business day to set up the time to come to your place of residence, business, or worship.
Do you pay cash on the spot, or can I receive a check?
On all transactions over $10,000, we reserve the right to make payment via bank check and will charge an extra fee. On all transactions up to $10,000 we can pay with a bank check; however, an additional fee will be charged.
Do you take foreign coins?
The short answer is: it depends. We can evaluate foreign coin exchange on a case-by-case basis, but in all cases, we will only pay US currency and will pay based on the exchange rates plus a 10% surcharge on top of the normal fees.
Are you a rare coin or precious metals dealer?
No. We are only in the business of making it convenient for people to exchange loose and rolled coin for the face value of that coin. We do, however, have a trusted source to whom we can refer interested customers that want to explore valuable and rare coins.
Are there any coins you won’t accept?
We accept all US coin currency that has been minted in the last 125 years: dollars, half-dollars, quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies. We also accept older and uncommon US coin currency, such as half-cent, 2-cent, 3-cent, 20-cent, and half-dime US coin currency, that we will only pay face value for. In limited circumstances, we will exchange foreign coins and privately minted coins. We do not accept gaming tokens, arcade tokens, or other non-official coin currency of any kind.
Do you come into my home?
To protect the safety of our employees and customers, we will only enter the home when the change exchange is too large for the customer to carry out to us. We may enter a place of business or worship under limited circumstances.
How does getting paid work?
We are transparent in all our fees. In general, we charge a flat 2.5% on already rolled or wrapped coins and 5% on loose coins rounded to the nearest whole dollar. By contrast, the largest coin collection machine charges nearly 13% plus a transaction fee. If there are any additional fees we need to charge, such as a foreign coin transaction, or paying in check, those fees will be disclosed before we mutually agree to transact.
Do you provide an inventory of the change counted?
Absolutely. If you are exchanging rolled coin, we will provide the inventory on the receipt charging the fee. If the coins are wrapped, we will include a print-out with the invoice showing the breakdown of coins provided.
Do you have a minimum to agree to an exchange?
In general, our minimum is ~$50 in loose or rolled change; however, in some cases, customers have large volumes of pennies and nickels where it is difficult to reach that minimum. In those cases, we might make an exception to the minimum, but that will be discussed before we mutually agree to transact.
Aren’t some coins worth more than their face value?
The short answer is: yes. In general, coins have 3 values: face, metal, and numismatic.
The value of a coin depends on several factors, including its age, uniqueness, condition, and demand among collectors. While some coins may carry a premium due to their historical or numismatic significance, many coins in circulation are only worth their face value or even less in certain cases, such as older coins made from base metals with no significant collector interest. We operate on the principle of paying a fair value based on similar sales for collectible coins and face value for all other coins because to simplify the transaction process.
